HPI Savage X 4.6 Muck-About | RC Chased By Dog
Here's mucking about with my HPI Savage X 4.6. Quick a good bash-around truck. Put this vid together with random pics and clips, including one of it getting chased by my mom's stupid dog- be sure to look out for that. It's a great truck to get for general fun. For racing, and better track performance, you might wanna look instead at the Exceed RC Madstorm available see http://bit.ly/hYVwJK
HPI Savage X 4.6 Bash @ Segar RC Track | How to get to Segar RC Track
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. If you're wondering how to get to the Zhonghua CC-managed Segar RC Off road Track, I'll do you a favor, since NO ONE has explicitly written about it - except for that it's beneath the KJE bridge. It's located opposite HDB Block 419, Segar Road. Look out for the visuals at the start of this video. If you drive, you may park in the multistory carpark by block 419. If you're taking the train, get off at the Fajar LRT, and walk against traffic past a junction to get to Segar Road.
Enough of that...so anyway, here's my first run at the Segar RC Track, and as you can see, Savage X has CRAP turning circle. Twice as large a turning circle as my Kyosho Inferno. I'd have to get the steering/suspension arm conversion kit to improve cornering. If you're considering a HPI Savage X 4.6, looking to race, want to get a great truck for a low price, get an Exceed RC Mad Storm at http://bit.ly/hYVwJK instead. The same .28- class engine, and a much lower CG and tighter turning, complete with high-torque servos.

Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Long day! Started out with tennis, then Church as a family, then lunch feast, home recce. I failed to find Sengkang's Farmway LRT RC Track, so settled on some excavated land near Popeye's at Riviera LRT. Had pretty good fun but shame no extra hand to film the sand drifting and climbing a mini mount of gravel. Capped off the day with hearty laughter at Jack Black's wisecracks in Gulliver's Travels.

Cheat Your Way To RC Drifting Like A Pro With Drift Gyros!
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com The art of drifting involves precise timing and control of counter-steer and throttle. That can be tricky business to learn- and even trickier to master. For those who want a quick edge to pro-like drifting, get yourself a "Drift Gyro". Helicopters rely on gyros to stay balanced. RC gyros similarly aid by detecting g-forces in a turn, and instructs your steering servo to make an appropriate amount of counter-steer to help you nab those impressive slides and hairpin turns.

How to Select A RC Car or Truck Motor
Electric RC Hobbyists and Racers-to-be need to know how to select a good, suitable motor for the RC car or truck you own. It isn't always about picking the fastest motor with the highest revolutions per minute (rpm). For instance, what good would a "fast" motor be, if yours was a monster truck deployed to beat your neighbor on bicycle to a hill climb? Likewise, you what good would a "powerful" motor be, if you owned a road car and gunning for a drag race? In this article, I seek to impart to you a basic understanding of rc car motors and terminology so that you would be a more successful hobby-racer and rc part shopper.
Some of the key aspects for your consideration include:
Vehicle Scale Size
Is yours a 1/18, 1/16, 1/12, 1/10, or 1/8? If you are running a 1/18 or 1/16 vehicle, you would usually be using a 380-size spec motor. 1/12 vehicles would use a 540-size spec motor, while 1/10s would use either a 540 or the slightly larger, 550-size spec motor. Most 1/10 and 1/8 RC vehicle owners these days are turning to "brushless motors", which due to a lower friction, and a capability to run at a high voltage, generate a lot more speed and torque.
Number of Turns
Most motors on the market would range from 6 to 27 turns. The lower the number of turns, the faster it can make your vehicle go, but the catch is lower torque - but this would not matter if yours is an on-road racing car as there is little roll-resistance in the surfaces you run on. The higher the number of turns, the more torque, but also less top-end speed. Crawlers, a popular kind of RC truck, specially adapted for obstacle climbing, even use motors with as high as 61 turns! They are no doubt extremely slow, but can climb practically anything! A 27 turn motor would probably only manage 20km/h at best, while a 12 turn motor can go over twice as fast, at 40-50km/h with a good LiPo battery. While choosing a motor for your on-road RC vehicle can be straightforward, you may wonder, what is the fastest motor you can get for your buggy, without sacrificing vital climbing torque - a key note is that all motors upwards of 9 turns have a decent amount of torque.
Electronic Speed Controller (ESC)
The ESC has an important role in commanding your motor on how to operate - fast, slow, forward or in reverse. It is able to control battery voltage input power curves for varying throttle effect, and also power cut-offs, to preserve the advanced LiPo batteries from going into total discharge. However, ESCs are also matched to the number of turns to the motor. Check the motor turns range supported by your ESC. In many cases you may need to purchase a new ESC to support your new motor. Mismatched ESCs can cause overheating and even explosions for your RC vehicle.
Popular Motors / ESCs
A current hot seller on all RC car and truck fronts is the Castle Creations "Mamba Monster" ESC, coupled with a Neu-Castle Brushless Motor. The Mamba Monster is able to manage up to 25.2 volts of battery power, three times of the popular 7.2 volt stick packs at over 85% efficiency, and channel them through to your steering and throttle servos, and generate 5-6 horsepower at the wheels - that's close to thrice the power of a typical 3.5cc buggy engine! Having said that, such technology comes with a cost in the hundreds - as much as a race-spec car or truck kit.

Bruce Lee, My Brother
Just watched "Bruce Lee, My Brother", the film based on the book by Lee's younger brother, Robert Lee. Great camera direction and excellent story-telling. Even the fight scenes, though few, given the movie's objectives, were tastefully done as well. Do stay on for the credits! The producers did a series of family photos with the cast, recreating the originals that are shown along side.

My Letter to Singtel Mobile On Overcharging Grievance!
This was what I just sent to Singtel, and all I could stuff in their character limit. If you have heard of Singtel overcharging, face overcharging, please "Like" this post, and share this with those you know.
I have received my latest bill as quoted above, and was shocked to see a charge of $450, itemized as "Bill on Behalf of Dealer of Eqt Plan Termination".
Late last year and at the start of this year, I had a spate of grievance with Singtel over the issue of overcharging on Broadband on Mobile usage - to the tune of excess charges ranging from $100-300 each month for about 5 months. The excess has since been credited back to me. I had previously requested for an Iphone as a remedy to my inconvenience but was denied. I also asked for an early termination waiver, as I was EXTREMELY annoyed with Singtel over the issue, and that some friends and acquaintances echoed similar frustrations on overcharging. I was also denied this, and was told that I would have to wait for my contract to end - "on the 24th November".
Since then, I have been on a count down to switch operators as I made a firm decision that Singtel shall make NO more money from me.
At the end of October, I phoned in to enquire if I could port over my line on 1 Nov, pay the month's plan subscription, and data plan as due. However, I was told that I had to wait for the same 24th November.
On the 24th November I enquired again if I could port my line over on the same day. I was then told that I could only do so on the day after.
On the 25th, I visited the M1 Dealer at West Coast Plaza and ported my line over to M1 - and now I am charged for termination?
I will pay only my monthly dues and NOT MORE. Please assist!

Nail-Biting - Element of Personal Upkeep, or Unhygienic Obsession?
Handsome, clean-cut Cyndi sits cool on the bus, listening to music from his mp3 player- until we couldn't help but notice his sheer intolerance of excess fingertip cuticle. No, that wouldn't wait for a pedicure - it has to be removed, with proper instruments or not. People with fetishes watching people who bite their nails, enjoy! Recorded on an IPhone 4.
What should you look out for when buying RC Car receivers and servos?
For those with experience in selecting RC Car / Buggy /Truck receivers (RX), a good steering servo, and throttle servo, add your comments and suggestions- factor in price vs performance & durability. I'll also be doing my own research and will update this later.
Some key areas to address:
- Analog Servo vs Digital Servo
- Do digital servos require different receivers & transmitters / rx, tx?
- Price range of available options
- Popular servo configurations or combinations from beginner to Pro
- Can we mix RC servos and receiver of different brands?

How to Break-In Your Nitro Engine for your RC Car, Buggy, Truck or Truggy?
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Here are some very general directions in breaking in your Nitro Engine for your RC Car, Buggy, Truck, Truggy.
1. Check your High Speed Needle setting.. most manufacturers have a default setting of 2 1/2 turns anti-clockwise from a fully tightened position.
2. Fuel up your tank
3. Prime the fuel into the carburetor using either a fuel pump, or in many other cases (like mine), just run the pull-start/ rotostart/ hand-starter/ starter box, covering the exhaust opening as you do so.
4. Remove your air filter to check that the carb has open with a small 1 mm gap.
5. You do not need your radio kit for this.
6. Connect your glow starter and pull-start/ rotostart/ hand-starter/ starter box - for not more than 5 seconds at a time.
7. You may place your car on a box, and open the throttle slightly.
8. Let your vehicle run 2-3 tanks of fuel his way.
This is a very "rich" fuel setting, that allows your engine to get seasoned and fully lubricated with the fuel additives, without running the engine too hot. In fact it should be quite safe to the touch. It will become faster for you.
Next steps include (Not shown in this video)
Tank 3: Run your car in circles, applying throttle slightly, and letting it coast. Repeat.
Tank 4: Find a large open space, run your RC vehicle to full throttle, and let it coast.
Tank 5: Same as 4, but now, tighten your HSN bit by bit, an 1/8 of a turn each time, followed by a test run or two. Repeat until your car can go no faster. If engine splutters or stalls, richen by 1/8 turn.
*Optional: Not all cars have Low Speed Needle (LSN), but if so, do adjust in the same way as HSN - this time looking for better throttle response.

Buying Your First RC Car : “Should I Buy Nitro or Electric?”
Read the full article about this at http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com
Buying Your First RC Car : "Should I Buy Nitro or Electric?"
Radio Controlled cars definitely bring lots of weekend fun and enjoyment. However, buying your first RC car can be quite tricky business. Generally speaking, no one wills to spend too heavily on something they are not sure of. Back in my day, I recall countless hours I spent glazing over catalogues and popular RC car magazines like RC Car Action and RC Driver.
If your consideration is largely price-influenced, the good news is that nowadays, through economies of scale, the prices of Nitro RC cars have come down so low that you can even purchase a Ready-to-Run Nitro RC Car for just US$159.99 – that's barely more than the cheapest Hobby-Grade RTR Electric RC Car! So then, if was no longer a matter of cost, here are some points you may want to think about to help guide you to your decision:
Speed - If speed is important to you, a low-end Nitro RC car would definitely outrun an Electric RC car of similar price which comes with a 550-motor at best. But for a taller budget, i.e. US$300 or more, today's Electric cars come with “Brushless Motors” that when mated with a powerful Lithium Polymer Battery, can rival or even out-do a Nitro car of the same class.
Ease of Maintenance – Nitro RC Cars require systematic engine break-in procedures, regular air filter and engine maintenance – just like a real car. Due to their averagely higher speed, you will also break more parts in unfortunate crashes, which require time and additional money to replace. Electric Cars on the other hand, are Charge, Plug & Play. Higher end ones may require you to do some form of motor break-in as well. Both require you to do routine suspension maintenance and dirt-removal.
Running Time – With an Electric Car, each battery lasts between 10-25 minutes. Your total running time is limited to the number of battery packs you have. Keep in mind though, that a single battery pack takes 1-8 hours to charge, depending on the specifications of the battery charger you have. Most RC enthusiasts purchase third-party batteries and chargers that offer faster charging, better running time, better performance, and functions that support charging of multiple battery packs simultaneously – of course these options do not come cheap. With a Nitro Car, each tankful of fuel lasts 15-30 minutes, depending on tank size, terrain, and your driving style. Your running time would be limited to the amount of fuel you have on tap.
Cost of Operation – In addition to a Nitro Car RTR, you will usually need to purchase a glow-starter, batteries for the radio transmitter, air filter oil, simple toolkit and of course, glow fuel. If you are planning on buying your Nitro Car RTR online, you will also need to find a local supplier for glow fuel first, as glow fuel is banned from air-freight. All these could add on a good US$50 to your order – a considerable added expense, still excluding first-timer part-breakage-replacements, if you are planning to get a low-end Nitro Car. Whereas, an Electric Car RTR usually includes a battery and charger. You will only need to purchase batteries for your radio transmitter, and a toolkit and you are all set. In the long term, you are likely to look for better performance, and Electric Cars require a different charger for each battery type, i.e. NiCd, NiMH, LIPO. If you are using brushless motors with LIPOs, you will suffer as much part-replacement costs as a Nitro Car. Hence, it's usually said that Nitro Cars are costlier upfront, but cheaper in the long run, and Electric Cars the opposite.
Sound & Accoustics – Nothing beats an Nitro-engine-powered RC. Brushless Motors may come close. If you are out for sound and on-looker appeal, you are sure to attract attention with your Nitro RC Car. Electric Cars are generally not noise makers – but that's a plus if you'd like to have some fun while others are sleep.

Hobbies & Good Quality of Life?
Quality of life is good when you work less than 25 hrs a week and in those hours, make more than you need for you to exercise lifestyle freedom when spending the rest of your waking hours with your family, friends or your personal hobbies and development. For me, hobby is RC trucks ... right here at http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com
First Run of the Rescued Kyosho Inferno DX with Thunder Tiger Pro21-BR Nitro Buggy Engine | http://HpiSavageX46.wordpress.com
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Following my previous tutorial on "How to Save A Locked RC Buggy / Plane / Heli Engine?" - here is the video of my first run - since the engine got locked up from unuse.
On a side note, shame on the folks at ToyKar.com, ToyKar SG Pte Ltd- distributors for Kyosho in Singapore. They said "your engine is locked" "your car is old and beyond repair" - well.. look... isn't it running now? Sure as hell, they won't be getting any business from me. Never trust your nearby hobby shop tell you if they tell you your locked engine can't be saved or serviced. After all, the next buggy I'm getting is gonna be either the Traxxas Bandit VXL Brushless, or the Team Associated RC8. If I had to get anything Kyosho, I'd get it online. I'd suggest you do so too. Check back often, I'll be putting up a buying guide often. http://hpisavage46.wordpress.com
Slow Incompetent USPS Sorting Delays | USPS Non-delivery | USPS Non-receipt
Here's a screen shots. I don't need to explain more. Just look at the dates, infer for yourself how slow and inefficient USPS is. I'll NEVER opt for USPS Priority Mail ever again. I'll go with Towerhobbies.com's Parts' Express discount on UPS Worldwide Express Saver.
First-run of castor-oil-locked nitro buggy engine: Success!
I recently posted a tutorial on how to revive/ unlock your long-unused nitro buggy engine. After replacing the glow plug, fully charging the glow starter, and finally being able to be home during the day when the family car is around, I finally managed to start up my Thunder Tiger Pro 21-BR 3.5 cc buggy engine! Initially, the idle was rather unstable, but as the engine got properly lubricated with the nitro fuel mixture, more torque was gradually sent through the drivetrain through the wheels. The engine ran unbelievably cool during the break-in setting. Exhaust pipe was improvised from my HPI Savage X. Will be posting some video footage after.
USPS Priority Mail Disappeared in Sorting | USPS Non-receipt | USPS supplier scam
Ok terence... you're scaring me. What? Your Iphone casing, shipped via USPS "disappeared"? Hmm.. I'm having second thoughts on picking up some HPI Savage X spare parts from Tai Seng here. If the same happens to mine, I'll at least get to run and race my RC truck while I complain and wait for a replacement - I was told to wait till 2nd December though. Did you get tracking on yours though? USPS has this "notification to receive parcel" thing as well. So in case that's what you got, there are some supplier scams online that give you a tracking code based on a notification to receive, and not actually sending the parcel to USPS.

USPS Priority Mail Seemed like a bad idea | I still haven't received my rc option parts shipment!
I get most of my Nitro Rc HPI Savage X parts from Tower Hobbies, and usually, I have them shipped to me via UPS Worldwide Express Saver. That usually costs just $25 as they rarely exceed a kilo, but as 7-14 days seemed like a reasonable wait for a 65% savings on shipping, I opted for USPS Priority Mail this time. Big mistake! According to the tracking info, for my order placed 17 Nov, as of 25 Nov, it just arrived at the USPS International Mail Sorting Center. How inefficient is that? I've already lost 10 days of playtime, and i'm adverse to spending additional money getting the HPI Savage Racing Clutch Bell locally. It would have reached me on 21 Nov! Verdict- given Towerhobbies.com's mailing list coupon codes and "Parts Express" shipping savers, stick with UPS Worldwide Express Saver.
Shittiest dream indeed! I dreamt I sat on a dirty toilet seat (even after exhaustive wiping, apparently still wasn't clean) which left shit marks on my shirt and bermudas. I was later in skulking about the corners of the National Day Parade in just my most worn out underwear, and met with warning gun-fire for streaking almost opposite the President and Prime Minister's spectator box.

Welcome to HPISavageX | RCCarsAsia
Welcome to my various linked social media accs for my childish obsession in Off-road rc cars. My posts will largely be related to rc car, rc car racing, rc option parts and rc car modification - and there will be greater editorial bias toward the HPI Savage X, the Kyosho Inferno (which I own) and the Team Associated RC8 (which I plan to get). However, do bear with same random rants here and there.
