Duratrax Clutch Alignment Tool

Local hobby "barren" wanted US$19 for a clutch alignment tool. What a douchebag! Like I'd buy from an extortionate git like that. I got this for US$5.99 on Tower Hobbies. There was even a "parts express" shipping discount. I bought quote a bit of stuff for the same low views

New RC Air Filter + Exhaust Muffler'

New simple mods for the old warrior. Air filter is the double layered type, from Thunder Tiger, and exhaust from BSD Racing.

Dirty 1/8 RC Wheel Washing

Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I've got loads of BSD / Redcat Racing spares... Shame the Land Ripper wheels are of a different hub size than my old Inferno DX. I had no choice but to strip out the foam, and separate tires from the wheels for a clean before I apply some fresh CA in the morning for afternoon racing.

High Voltage Electric Fly Swatter Demo

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Ready for some fireworks? We took this video at night at a seafood restaurant by the beach. Watch as I zap out mosquitos with random swings of the electric fly swatter. The high voltage kills them on impact and send them falling to the ground... or the dining table if you're unlucky with a draft of in-blowing wind.

High Voltage Electric Fly Swatter

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Are you sick of mozzies and flies bothering you while you eat or play? Introducing the High Voltage Electric Fly Swatter! I just got one of these as a gift from a wife's friend who incidentally manufactures them. With an Electric Fly Swatter, having flying insects around now becomes a fun affair! Weighing the same as a tennis racquet, and a little more than a Nintendo Wii controller, now you can burn calories practice being Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal, and swash-buckle bothersome insects at the same time!

In this video, I didn't have the benefit of time to await flying ants or butterflies, so I found this fly on the ground, as well as a beetle. The beetle sure made some fireworks...

Counter-steer RC Drifting

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Counter-steer drifting is highly enjoyable and a great pleasure to watch. Drift driving is a Japanese motor-sport sub-culture that gained cult-like following around the world following the multi-language adaptations and translations of the "Initial D" Japanese manga and anime series, even with one featuring the Taiwan pop sensation Jay Chou, and was later followed by Hollywood's "Fast & Furious 2: Tokyo Drift".

In earlier stages, skid drifting was the fad. Precision Russell Swift of the UK often used skid driving to perform seemingly impossible parking manouevres, like skidding or u-shape "power sliding" into a tight space between two cars. Now, the "in-thing" is to counter-steer to maintain a smooth entry and exit to tight corners.

However, the high costs of tyre-maintenance and car repair - perhaps even life-endangerment for the inexperienced, is not something everyone can stomach. The good news is that drifting can be enjoyed with a scale RC car - the most common being of the 1/10 size which is as most RC drift circuits are designed for.

Drifting can be done with either a 2WD (Rear Wheel Drive) or 4WD RC car fitted with low-traction "drifting tyres". Electric-powered RC cars are more commonly used for RC drifting due to lower noise emissions and no exhaust fumes unlike Nitro-powered models. Moreover, you wouldn't have the floor strewn with un-combusted fuel that would cause you unwanted wipe-outs. This also makes it convenient to indulge in the drifting sport into the wee hours with a set of LED lights, with no fear of being pelted with eggs for being an environmental bother. Such a kit only costs from as low as US$150 for a good setup - to a couple of hundred for the discerning enthusiast.

If you already own an offroad RC buggy or truggy, you do not immediately have to invest in a Drift RC car to get a feel of drifting. Simply drive your car on a skid-pan, i.e. wet smooth asphalt or tile, and try going around some poles or cones at mid-rev. Without the usual traction, you'd be experiencing counter-steer drifting in no time!

Here's the junction of Tampines Rd that has the KPE directly overhead.

Walk up toward the traffic junction. It's a rainy day, but as the track's covered, the weather's not gonna spoil your fun.

I quite prefer the jumps built here than the ones at Segar. My car grabs alot more air and nose-dives much less.

Another perspective of the RC track

Self explanatory picture. Hand-painted "DIOT Track" signboard

The work benches at DIOT

The other half of the DIOT track

The DIOT track. Half of it. Too wide for my IPhone lens

Here we are, at the Defu Indoor Outdoor Track or DIOT as known. You might notice that it's not really "in doors" as there aren't any doors about here. If anything at all, this place might pass un-noticed unless GP buggies are running, as it is enclosed by plants on all sides. The track is the size of both EP and GP tracks at Segar Rd combined- or even larger than that. DIOT probably is the biggest un-official RC track in Singapore. The official ones would be the one at Turf City (which may disappear when the site's operation license expires in August 2011), and Bottle Tree Park RC.

BSD Racing BS809T

The "Land Ripper 2" - a bloody tough 1/8 EP Brushless Buggy. I've yet to break anything on this yet.

My BSD buggy at the DIOT track. Shame no means to film my racing about.

Parting shots of the RC track

Getting to the DIOT RC Track

Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Bus stop 64229, bemarked as LP93 is the nearest busstop that I noted in getting to the Defu Indoor Offroad Track. This bus stop is served by buses 53,72 and 81 which take you to and from (if you go to the opposite side of Tampines Rd) Serangoon, Kovan and Hougang Mrts

I was alone the entire rainy time save for a Cisco officer who parked his bike and took a nap at the far end of the track.

Location of Defu Indoor Offroad Track (DIOT)

Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Singapore RC Off-road enthusiasts! In the above picture is the exact location of the Defu Indoor Offroad Track as popularly known on RCTech.net, and "DIOT" for short. Years ago it was a popular 1/10 buggy and truggy track. More recently, it's been modified to be more 1/8-friendly. According to online discussions, it seems popular with 1/8 EP racers. I'll be checking it out tomorrow with my BSD Racing BS809T Land Ripper 2 buggy. Will take pics as best as I can! (for those looking at the map diagram, the track is a covered one beneath the stretch of Kallang Paya-Lebar Expressway, KPE, directly at the end of Defu Lane 1.)

I'm hooked on IPhone App "Build-a-lot"

Http://hpisavagex.wordpress.com. This is a time management and strategy game. Other popular time management games include Diner Dash, Sally's Spa and Cake Mania. Build-a-Lot is very different in that, rather than a game of providing service, I play a property developer with objectives of purchasing land, zoning, drafting, development, redevelopment, and sale of developed land - with the objectives of raising rental income, and heeding mayor's bids in raising money for the town councils. I find it very mentally stimulating and educational in areas of real estate investment planning. Anyone interested in getting rich through real estate should play this game.

Remote Controlled Easy Large Dog Walking RC Car

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Ever got lazy walking your large dog? Truth be told, even if you weren't lazy or tired, you can never give your large dog good enough a workout - UNTIL NOW!

Here's an experiment of me walking my cross-bred Retriever-Husky dog, McDuffy, with my 1/8 BSD Racing Brushless Buggy. While it was enough torque for now, as McDuffy probably takes it for a joke, I think we need to go larger on the car and motor. You probably could walk large dogs with 1/5 or 1/4 scale cars. For Dog's sake, please run on LIPO battery, and not Gasoline (or they'll get intoxicated with exhaust fumes). Check back on my blog for 1/5 brushless cars and trucks soon!

Enjoy the video..

What is a "Roller" RC Car, or "Race-Roller"?

Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Those of you who scour EBay and RC-Tech for 2nd hand RC bargains would have probably come across the terms "Roller" and "Race Roller". In the context of RC cars, what this means is that the kit comes without motor/engine, and electronics (esc, receiver, servos). Race rollers on the other hand are similarly without the "essentials" but are race-ready and have race-ready modifications to the car. On the used RC car market, rollers abound as many owners are not willing to part with their favorite engine or radio system. Some popular brand new "Rollers" out there- such as the Losi 8-ight, the Hot Bodies D8 Atsushi Hara Edition, and the pictured TQ SX10 SC. Rollers allow you to have maximum customization of vital parts and sometimes, cost savings too, as you get none of what you don't want or need

It's Valentine's Day today. Have people resorted to E-flowers in response to Valentine's Day floral price hikes? I've been out and about but only saw 2 bouquets all day.

Parenting Guidelines : Follow or Not?

My wife and I are vehemently against textbook parenting practices and guidelines. "Lunch at 11", "Nap from 12-2" ... "Lights out at 8". Absurd. It's writing your own time-prison- plus it teaches the child nothing in the way of adaptability. Who on earth cane up with these stupid ideas on parenting? Then throw in the baby steamed by way of two extra layers of clothes and you may start thinking that this is instead, Smothering 101. Overly-protective parenting results in babies and subsequently, children who are irritable, short-tempered and highly affected by changes in environment. Such parents usually take pride in their form of child-care and will never admit to running a fault- not even when their young manifest as the troublesome weaklings. We prefer to believe that children are to be thought and guided- not little frankensteins that will end up ruling us parents. We'd rather ensure that our young get their feed when hungry, and a place to rest when tired - while we continue to live our normally productive lives.

Pictured, clockwise from top left, BSD BS807T Short Course Truck, Viper XST 550-motor 1/10 Monster Truck (also available with Brushless motor), BS809T Land Ripper 2 1/8 Brushless Buggy, Leopard Mini-zilla 4WD Twin Motor Twin 7.2V high performance mini-truck. Short course truck has been sold, refer to earlier post for review. Viper XST and Leopard Mini-zilla are gifts but also available for sale. Land Ripper 2 is an awesome buggy! That and the SCT are rugged as hell and among the fastest in their class. I'm taking the manufacturers word on this that Land Ripper 2 kicks the predecessor's ass. Been wanting to do a video on the LR2 but no one to film whole I drive it.

BSD / Redcat Short Course Truck Size Comparison

Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Here is the BSD | Redcat Aftershock 8E put beside the 1/8 Scale Hpi Savage X 4.6, and the BSD Viper Xst 1/10 Monster Truck (Aka Redcat Earthquake) just so you can have a better idea on its dimensions. If you realize, 1/10 SCTs are often as large and have wheelbases as the 1/8 trucks and buggies. Yet, some track operators forbid running 1/8 class cars n trucks on the very tracks the 1/10 SCTs run on.

Is the BSD Land Ripper really a Narrow Track Buggy?

There's been much talk about the Bsd Racing Land Ripper - that it is longer and narrower than race-class 1/8 buggies. As I have a Kyosho Inferno, the most popular IFMAR race car, I decided to have visual comparo. Verdict: Same wheelbase, same track. If you thought it was longer or narrower, it's just an optical illusion.

Chantelle's First Month - Busy Weekend

Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I apologize for the fewer entries this weekend. Daughter's sleep pattern has been taking a toll on me. Work has also resumed. Which begs the thought of retirement with RC modeling and racing as a full-time occupation. There's so many topics I'd like to write about. Do check back regularly, plenty of updates on the way. Chantelle is a day and a month old! Will have her on RC-truck-drawn prams soon.

Comments on the Turnigy 200W A6-10 Lipo Multi-charger from HobbyKing

The Turnigy 200W A6-10 Multi-charger I purchased from HobbyKing seems to do a much better and quicker job of Lipo cell voltage cell-balancing than my previous GT A6-D. The only downside is that power input for the Turnigy 200W is DC via 12V battery. There is no radio jack for ac/dc adaptors - so when the 12V lead acid battery is low on power, there will be a "Input Voltage Error" status alert on the LED panel. On the other hand, the previous charger by GTRC had an in-built power supply with an external power cable jack. The main reason for the upgrade was to charge my soon-to-arrive Gens Ace 2s and 3s 5000mAh 40C Hardcase lipos at 2C rate, which the Turnigy is capable of, with its max-amp output of 10A. Now, I probably could cycle the use and charging of 3 packs to last a whole afternoon at the track.

GreenPois0n Untethered Jailbreak for IPhone 4 / IPhone 3GS on 4.2.1

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Hey folks! Another jailbreak video from me for the Iphone 4 and 3GS running 4.2.1. Work your IPhone to its fullest capabilities with open source and great bolt-on apps from the Iphone Dev Team community.

The files you need for GreenPoison RC5 can be found at (download links):
For Mac OSX- http://mygadgetnews.com/downloads/Greenpois0n-RC5-OSX.zip
For Windows- http://mirrors.ih8sn0w.com/gp_win_rc5_b2.zip
For Linux- http://www.greenpois0n.com/dl/greenpois0n-lin_rc5.zip

I started my phone in DFU mode which I felt made things a lot smoother and quicker. To get into DFU, you'll have to:
1) Press the power button for 5 seconds
2) While still holding down the power button, press the home button as well, for 10 seconds
3) While still holding down the home button, release the power button. Continue to hold home button for 10 seconds.
4) If done correctly, screen should remain off.

Connect your Iphone via USB. Run the software. Follow as per my video.

The whole process took me 6 and a half minutes. I cut out the dull waits in post-editing to give you a cleaner, less boring video.

This jailbreak will work if you have been previously relying on a RedSnow 9.6rc7. Does not fuck up your Cydia and Install0us installations. However, if you're using an Ultrasn0w carrier unlock, stay away for now.

Other than that, have fun with your Greenpoison RC5 Jailbreak!

UNBOXED! BSD Racing BS807T SCT a.k.a. Redcat Aftershock 8E

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Hey folks, this is yet another review on the BSD Racing series. This time we're looking at the BS807T Short Course Truck. Based on the popular "Land Ripper" platform, this comes fitted with a HobbyWing Xerun 80A Competition ESC, coupled with a HobbyWing Xerun 2230Kv Brushless Motor and Dual 2S Lipos of 3300mAh each, this is set to tear up the tracks! A very powerful setup that still uses race-compliant SCT tyres. Amp it up any further and you'd have trouble driving it on a track. Big-ass bumpers on both ends, and Big Bore shocks with bleed shock caps to soak up the shocks. More videos to come.....

Hmmm... If Jeff Hoy manages and writes 3 good blogs at once, I suppose I can handle 2. Maybe it's time to revive the Asianwealth blog again just like how I revived an old Thunder Tiger engine.

Patrick de Castillo, President & Principle Engineer of Castle Creations, calls HobbyKing's latest "Kick-ass ESC", the Turnigy Trackstar 150A "Lawsuit-Worthy"! http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com/2011/02/05/what-people-say-about-the-turnigy-trackstar-150a/

First Looks: BSD Racing BS807T, a.k.a. Redcat Racing Aftershock 8E

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. This is the BSD Racing BS807T, a.k.a. Redcat Racing Aftershock 8E. It is a 1/10 scale short course truck with race-compliant truck tires (not the cheater buggy wheels). Very highly-bashable kit that is based on the Land Ripper, a.k.a. Redcat Backdraft 8E. Except that, this one comes stock with a Xerun 80A ESC (vs EZrun for the Backdraft). Powered by dual 2 cell Lipo packs, i.e. 4S2P, upgradable to 6S2P... this is another Asian RC bastardization that is a force to be reckoned with. Possibly the most powerful (6s2p) SC truck ever made... Traxxas Slash... be very afraid.....

Turnigy A-6-10 200W Lipo Balancer-Charger - XT60 Leads

http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. This is the Turnigy A-6-10 200W Lipo Balancer-Charger with XT60 Leads. It comes with both RC Lipo battery charging, discharging and balancing capabilities at a rate of up to 10 Amps - that's good enough for a 2C charge rate for 5000mah packs out there. It charges other battery types too - NiMh, NiCd, and even Lead-acid too. It comes with several adaptors for various applications- such as your receiver packs and glow starters. With an optional balance card, you can also perform parallel balance charging of up to 2 6S Lipo packs. The stock connectors are all in XT60, which is HobbyKing's proprietary connector type. However, you can easily purchase 4mm Banana plugs with Deans or Traxxas connectors to suit your RC cars' battery connector type.

Welcome! Welcome! It seems my RC blog isn't so pointless after all! Yesterday, a milestone 82 views! That comes on the heels of some NuffNang blogs on general interest and trivia. Site traffic has been on the steady rise as more and more folks are keen to find out more about top Asian designed RC car equipment like SkyRC Toro8, Turnigy, HobbyWing Xeruns, and cars by HSP, BSD Racing and FS Racing and where (on and off-road rc tracks) to race and play.

Purchase 4mm banana plugs with the charging leads of your choice for use with the Turnigy chargers from HobbyKing.

Turnigy 200 Watts Lipo 10 Amps Charger

Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I just took delivery of the Turnigy 200 Watts Lipo 10 Amps Charger. I actually traded my GT RC A6-D for this as I was seeking to charge my Lipo packs at 10A, or 2C of my 5000 mah packs. I also purchased a balance card that'll allow me to charge and balance 2 2 or 3 cell packs simultaneously. However, do note that ALL Turnigy chargers come with XT60 leads. It turns out that HobbyKing, the sole distributor of Turnigy, is vehemently against the "over-priced Deans connectors" and even made their proprietary XT60 connector type available for all to make without any licensing required. According to the HobbyKing website, the XT60 connectors have a superior contact area and the ability to carry a greater current load. If you're using Deans or Traxxas connectors, it doesn't mean you can't use this value-for-money, feature-packed charger. All you need to do is buy a 4mm Banana connector with Deans or any charge leads that you need for your Lipo packs. While I'll be getting that for my existing packs, I've also ordered XT60 connectors, and 4mm heat shrink tubing - which I'll be using to switch my existing RC Car n battery connectors.
