http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. My friend and real estate agent, Ian Teh, is seen here checking out his BSD BS807T / Redcat Aftershock 8E and getting used to the Segar Offroad Track. It's extremely powerful and will oversteer on acceleration, so do take your turns slow before throttling in.

BSD Land Ripper Nitro / Redcat Backdraft 3.5 Tuning
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Here's Kelvin a.k.a. SpoonJazz on RC tech helping inspect my Land Ripper Nitro's break-in needle settings at the Segar Rd offroad track. His comments were that the stock wheels are a little hard so wheels still lift off the ground during throttle in spite of the low suspension arm setting - affecting power transfer. Kelvin's a very experienced RC racer who once spent an afternoon teaching me most of what I know in RC. Unfortunately, work will be taking him to Paris later this month. I hope he managed to touch base with the French RC racers there. This IS the Redcat Racing Backdraft 3.5 on it's original branding.

Brian Kinwald Wins At Round 1 Of The 2011 Short Course Showdown Nation Wide Tour
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Brian Kinwald has been in the RC racing scene for ages! He was around back when I had my lukewarm start in Nitro RC 15 years ago. The other name I recall is Jamie Booth - who apparently is now representing Team Hong Nor.
In this 2011 Short Course Showdown National-wide Tour, Kinwald, racing for Team Associated, took first place in the Short Course Modified 2WD class. Team Losi Racing driver Mike Truhe had some technical issues in the 2WD A-main and had to bow out of the race. However, Truhe was able to make a comeback in the Short Course Modified 4WD A-main and suppress to Kinwald to finishing a close second.
Round #1 was held at R/C Excitement in Fitchburg, MA and round #2 will be at Trackside Hobbies June 17th-19th.
IPhone Scientific Calculator
Did you know that the IPhone IOS 4.2.1 has a scientific calculator if you tilt it? I wonder if it was also around in earlier editions.
Finally hit my 2008 income goal! Better late than never.

SH Engine Over-heating Problems
Unfortunately, many bear the misconception that SH engines run very hot and thus wear out faster. The truth is that these are incredibly powerful and reliable engines. In fact, they are currently the largest exposures of RC on road, off road and competition engines in Asia, displacing the previously popular Toki and Team Infinity branded engines. However, to the inexperienced hobbyist, they may experience overheating problems with their SH engine. This is because the factory needle settings may be incorrect. Apparently, the default needle settings for the SH .21 and .28 engines are 4.75 turns out for HSN and 3 turns out for LSN - both from a fully closed position. My SH engine arrived with a very lean LSN setting. Consequently, I experienced problems starting the engine, as well as difficulty getting the engine to idle. If I did not adjust the trim or hold the throttle, the engine would shut off. I did a check on the exhaust and found that the fumes were grey or transparent and did not splutter unburnt fuel. The engine also hit temps of over 270 f. I proceeded to richen LSN in gradual increments and I hit the right tune after richening about .45 turn. I just finished my 5th tank and temperature does not exceed 225 f, like any other big brand engine described in RC car engine break in instructions found online. If you own a SH engine that is running hot, do try the tips I described in this post. If you have a question or feedback on SH engines, do leave me a comment on this post. Cheers!

Latest Fully-Programmable Radio Control by FlySky Electronics Corp.
This is the Latest Fully-Programmable 3-Channel Radio Control by FlySky Electronics Corp. It features AFHS, or Advanced Frequency Hopping System, which fluctuates the frequency between 2.4ghz to 2.498ghz, thus effectively acting as an anti-signal jamming protocol. Friends who've been long in the scene describe the FS-GT3B as a high-performance alternative to the popular Futaba 4Pk, but at an entry level price. What I really like about this though, is that despite the large LCD display, it has a very low battery current draw. I would estimate it in the range of 0.08 amps. Let's just say, it's been a very long break-in process for my new SH .21 Buggy engine, and I've had my transmitter on throughout, and it's still 10.6v left on my set of batteries. My old Hitec Aggressor SRX would have long got this into low-batt mode as that has a factory-rated draw of 0.32amps.
FlySky FS-GR3C 2.4Ghz Receiver Set
Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. The FlySky FS-GR3C is the accompanying 2.4ghz receiver for FlySky's popular GT2 and latest GT3B transmitter models. The antenna is protected 2 inches from the end with clear heat-shrink tubing. It also comes with a short antenna tube and a bind plug. I'll be getting more receiver units like this, so that I may bind all my RC cars to my new GT3B controller. My latest cars from BSD Racing come with the GR3C receiver as standard so I wouldn't need to replace those. FlySky also does OEM for HobbyKing, so those looking to get additional receivers after buying the new GT3B won't have to look too far.
FlySky FS-GT3B Box Contents
The FlySky FS-GT3B's packaging includes: the FS-GT3B transmitter, the FS-GR3C receiver, Bind plug, Antenna tube, Usage Manual CD-Rom. Racers will also be glad to know that the controller comes pre-loaded with a virtual racing software so that you can practice your driving and cornering skills before you head down to the track.

Can Being An RC Racer Get You Laid? Jessica Barton answers.
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Asylum.com journalist Oliver Noble pops down to the Snowbird Nationals RC Championships - the Orange Bowl of RC in the USA, to find out if good RC racing skills can get you laid.
"Does the size of a guy's car count, or how they drive it?"
"Would you ever consider taking one of the RC car racers to bed?"
Watch the video to hear what Miss Snowbird, adult actress, pin-up model, and Playboy hottie - Jessica Barton, has to say. With her side interest in motorsport, Jessica is a regular face in motoring events.

Green Hornet's Seth Rogen Slams Singapore on Conan O'Brien
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Following his visit to Singapore to promote the launch of the film, "The Green Hornet", Seth Rogen was seen slamming Singapore on Conan O'Brien's talkshow. In the 1m 43s video clip, the talented script-writer and actor behind award-winning box office hits, Superbad, and Zack and Miri Make a Porno, ridiculed Singapore and his visit there on issues ranging from the Michael Fay caning over graffiti, to the stiff treatment of drug trafficking (death penalty), to the Singaporean's political apathy, and dictatorial government.
Several reposts of the original footage on video-sharing sites such as Youtube and Dailymotion have elicited negative sentiments from netizens. While the majority reacted with anger and calls for "Seth Rogen Boycott", the rest agreed with Rogen's points but felt that he could have presented them more tactfully.
Author's thoughts: Geez! You should know better than asking movie fans on questions like "how do you find it in Singapore". If they aren't already stupid, they're star-struck. People with an opinion on things would have better things to do than be at a public movie launch. You might have better luck with getting an opinion at a Gala Premier..... plus.... Rogen was being the same spoilt braggart bozo he played in Green Hornet.

BSD Land Ripper Nitro Mods
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Wanna improve your BSD Land Ripper Nitro or Backdraft 3.5? Change your shock posts to the aluminum ones for more rigidity. Change your shocks to the full-body alum alloy ones. They compress and reform so much better. Changed the steering knuckles and lower suspension arm carriers to alloy too. Change the air filter. I've switched to a Thunder Tiger large intake dual element one for their .28 engines. Stock is Single element (see previous post), which kinds sucks. Besides, the stock filter's yellow pipe was melting and yellow goop was oozing down toward the carb.... Dangerous! I also changed the fuel line as there was a defect resulting air being drawn into the line, causing in air bubbles that cause engine stalling, especially during the break in stage.
Not a stock Land Ripper Nitro!
Looks more like a racer now than the "entry-level" nitro cars Redcats are supposed to be. I've also re-binded the stock receiver to a new Fly-Sky GT3B Digital Proportional professional gun transmitter
Ain't No Redcat. It's a BSD!
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress. Isn't that a Redcat Backdraft 3.5? No it ain't. It's the BSD BS802T Land Ripper Nitro! Here's a picture during break in. Pay close attention to the next couple of photos, in the later post, where I reveal some enhancements you'd like to make to yours.
These Girls Really Dig RC Car Dudes : RCX 2011
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. RCX 2011 is on, today and tomorrow. Miss it, and you'll have to wait for next year. Here's one more reason to go... The RC hobby is stigmatized as one for those with no girlfriends. But these girls here don't mind being booth reps at the show. They must have an interest in the hobby and the guys in it. Here are the Kyosho Babes of yesteryear.

RCX and the Babes of RCX 2011
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. The RCX 2011, or rather, "Radio Controlled Expo 2011", is currently going on at Fairplex, Pomona. It's on from today till tomorrow. That's 18-19 March.
If you're in the US, and you're into RC cars, you'll want to be there cos it's possibly the world's largest RC expo, and it features the latest products and prototype displays from various RC vendors.
If you're looking for action, there'll also be Rock Crawler demos, SC Truck races, Buggy races, height-jumping and distance-jumping comps and demos.. so alot of fun.
If you're going with a camera, there'll be lots to snap - not forgetting the Nitro fuel babes, and the various racequeens and hot product reps all around. Have a blast!

RC Blog Hits 7,777 Views All-Time!
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I just had to screen shot this... I mean like... You can't just deliberately login and expect to see a desired amount of site views unless you're using click-ip-spoofing software.
This blog has certainly come a long way. We're at the half-way mark today, and we're already at 150! Wow! I hope more people will discover my blog. I wish to get to the point where I can run polls, giveaways, and have content contributions from my regular readers.
Gens Ace 2S 7.4v Lipo 5000mah 40C
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Just received a batch of these today from Ace-Pow. These are the ROAR-Approved Hard Case 2S 7.4v 5000mah 40C lipo batteries for RC cars and trucks. I'll be using two for my BSD Racing BS809T Land Ripper 2 (Redcat Backdraft 8E), and the rest will be sold on-line and off-line to hobbyists over here. These should get me rather good running times and extended peak performance on my buggy. Gens Ace batteries are reputed for good discharge power curves and true-to-print discharge cycles- something which cannot be said among even popular American-made Lipo race-ready packs. Unfortunately, Ace-Pow just launched their 2S 7.4v 5000mah 50C packs but they were sold out before I could get my hands on them. Nonetheless, these ones are race proven, and Jeff Hoy of BigSquidRC.com has tested them to be a top performance battery brand in his two "Lipo Battery Shoot-Outs". If you own a Traxxas Slash, Hpi Blitz, Inferno VE, or Vorza Flux, you'll want a set of these packs to amp up your car's performance

1/8 4wd Buggy Transmission Problem Identified!
Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I've identified the problem that has stalled my Inferno DX. Previously, I was under the impression that the centre diff was at fault for not sending power to rear wheels. Then, after doing more checks on how the rear drive shaft moved depending on how I spun the rear wheels, comparing to the front, I realized that it could be a buggy rear differential issue.
So after dismounting the rear bulkhead from the chasis...
I observed that I had correctly deduced the problem. Indeed, differential pinion and spur gears were stripped!
While I should only celebrate after I find suitable replacements for these parts, I am glad that it wasn't the centre diff after all. The centre diff parts would certainly be rarer and costlier than the rear diff. What's comforting though, is that kind folks at RCTech.net shared that I might be able to use most parts from future infernos, as its apparently forward compatible, prior to the Inferno MP9. I'll be updating you folks on this repair in case anyone may have a Inferno DX as well.

Trash "Old Car" : The Toykar Singapore Grudge Match
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. There's some chance of reviving this after all. Will be taking apart the centre differential for inspection when I have time this evening if Chantelle is well behaved. Hopefully its a loose part. If not, i hope its a generic gear. If need be, i hope to replace with a centre diff from the Thunder Tiger EB4 SX3, or BSD Racing. Still gearing up for the grudge match. Hopefully with this car. I think it may need a bigger or better powerplant though. The LSN is well tuned but I am not getting good low end torque from the current Thunder Tiger Pro 21BR, compared to my friend's O.S. Speed engine. I like supporting the budding Asian companies, so i'd be looking at a SH 21 6-port turbo, or SH 28 8-port Offroad Competition engine. I'll be receiving my BSD BS802T or Redcat Backdraft 3.5 Nitro in a day's time. That comes with a SH 3-port buggy engine. I'm quite keen to test and review that. Then, I'll effectively have two 1/8 racing buggies from BSD Racing, one GP, one EP. In the same shipment, I'll be receiving several sets of Flysky GT3B (I know...like finally). One's mine, some will be for friend's pre-orders, and the rest will be sold off online.
BSD Racing Front Suspension Post
These are the after-market aluminum alloy mods. Fits all 1/10 and 1/8 scale BSD Racing and several models on the Redcat Racing range.

Nitro RC Engine Maintenance & Storage
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Thinking of putting your RC car away for a period of non-use? Be sure to expel any remnant fuel as un-combusted castor oil parts of fuel mixture can congeal and harden, and in some cases even "brick" your engine. If you're wondering why your engine can be harder to start after a week or two of non-use, this is the reason why. While I do also have a video entitled "How to Save A Locked RC Buggy / Plane / Heli Engine?" which addresses how to fix that, you don't want to get to that point unnecessarily.
In this video, I have a Kyosho Inferno running a Thunder Tiger Pro 21BR non-pull-start engine, BSD Racing glow-plug metered ignitor and using a Thunder Tiger hand-held starter.
Follow the instructions in the video, and also invest in some after-run engine oil, or "Marvel Mystery Oil". Treat your nitro engine well, and it'll serve you well for a long time to come.
Check out my blog for more tips and RC reviews.

Off-Road 1/8 Buggy VLog 8 March 2011
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Heya... Just chillin' here at Segar Road Offroad RC Track opposite my new apartment. Race training session got shortened by a burnt centre differential, so just made this vlog post to pass time and share with you on my good ol' Kyosho Inferno DX, the progress on my revenge plans against the folks at Toykar Singapore Pte Ltd, and the course here for any racer / basher / enthusiast who'd like to know. Check out my blog at http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com, just put a post up on chicks in RC, RC babes and girls with RC cars. Will soon be updating on the RCX 2011 which will be happening this month.

Offroad RC: Perfect for Off-days
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Me and my offroad RC 1/8 nitro buggy. At the Segar Rd RC track, on my off-day.
Piggyback Shocks on a Motorcycle or in RC Trucks?
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. While piggyback shocks look mean and cool, that's only as far as life-size motorcycles, cars and ATVs are concerned. For the 1/10 scale or 1/8 RC car or truck, piggyback shocks are nothing but dead, extra weight. Such shocks in scaled down models just don't get hot enough for the extra "piggyback" shock reservoirs to help cool down.
Inferno Buggy Rides Along for Tennis
Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Totally random, really. So I took my reconditioned Kyosho Inferno DX buggy out for some action at the Defu Offroad Track. Agenda included fine tuning the LSN, HSN and Idle setting, brake strength calibration, and steering EPA. It was a fairly productive session, stopping short of adjusting an ideal steering EPA- when the switch model shorted out (wonder how that happened) and I then realized the rain had stopped and my tennis class was back on again! Thank God for the sign... That's a $104 profit after the $6 repair, versus a $6 loss had the session rained out. I'm using a Hitec Aggressor SRX
