http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Here's my no-BS review of the BSD / Redcat Racing cars' optional upgrades. If you happen to get hold of a car or truck by BSD / Redcat Racng, congratulations, as you've just picked up one of the fastest machines around. In this video, I'm gonna show you which upgrades work, which ones are a waste of money, and some additional tips to make your car run better and last through bashing better.
The tips here apply to all the BSD Racing 1/8 Scale Cars, i.e. the Land Ripper, the BS809T, the BS807T, the BS802T, the BS808T, etc, the Redcat Backdraft 3.5, 8E, Aftershock 8E, 3.5, Earthquake 8E, 3.5.
Being an importer of these cars to my country, I have the privilege of thoroughly testing them in stock form, as well as with the full set of option parts. I must say, more expensive doesn't necessarily better. Don't just rush out and get every single upgrade out there - as in some cases, the stock settings may be better. If you deck them out correctly, they'll serve you very well and even win you some races here and there.
Some of the upgrades I covered in this video include:
- Aluminium Shock Tower
- Revised A-Arm Design for BSD Land Ripper 2
- Axle Extenders
- Anodized Steering Knuckles
- Steering Hub / Chassis Screws
- Steel Spur Gear
- BSD / Redcat Front Chassis Modification
- Steering Servo Upgrade
- Lipo Battery Configuration
- Loose Receiver Box Problem
- Monster Truck Wheels
- Truggy conversion for BSD / Redcat Racing
I also referenced the two websites for getting better screws:
www.RCScrewZ.com
www.Racers-Edge.com
I hope you find this video useful. Do drop me a comment if it helped you out. If you have any questions on BSD or Redcat cars, feel free to ask me anything as well.
Peace out!

My First Flight of the Avatar Z003 / F103 Micro-Helicopter
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I must warn you that I'm no expert in this area, and I've only "briefly" owned a 45cm co-axial helicopter before, which I gave to my tom-boy domestic helper as a farewell gift. That was a HuanQi HQ853.
I decided that I still wanted to fly a helicopter and that the HQ853 was probably a little big for indoors (at home) - where I'm mostly at, if not out for work. The Avatar Z003, a.k.a. F103 Firewolf Micro-Helicopter was highly lauded for it's ease of control, stability, and agility - and I found it to be every bit as so.
Owing to its minute palm-size, it has no place where there is breeze or even drafts of wind. Your best bet is to fly it in an air-conditioned room. It's no surprise why micro radio controlled air crafts are keenly hawked in shopping malls these days.
Do check out my flight video, and I hope you enjoy it. As my controlling skills improve, I'll certainly be posting up more videos and a proper review of this.

RC Humor. RC Car Muck-Around
Http://Hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. BSD Land Ripper 2 with 6.3" truck wheels, HPI Savage X looking dorky with 1/8 DIY drift wheels (road tyres taped over with electrical tape).
Land Ripper 2 showing off its (limited) suspension travel as it crawls over the "Savage X Drift". I should assume that the Redcat Earthquake 8E used axle extenders as this setup I did has very narrow track. I just ordered longer axles and axle extenders for the fun of it.
Still too narrow to be truggy, but not for long.
Mix-and-match frenzy... Bringing back the days of silly European bicycles with a large front wheel and a puny rear one.
I've been drifting the BSD Land Ripper, if you're wondering why it had those rear wheels.
This was a joke. I'm sure the Savage X would be pissed off with me if it had feelings.
Don't they look small from this view?
China Kyosho Inferno Copy. Nope, this ain't no HSP.
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Just as I was shopping around for some brushless truggys to be gifts for my male cousins, I came across this. If you compare to a few posts ago, just look at the design and layout. It's definitely a clone of the Kyosho Inferno MP777 or MP9. The body is definitely a molding of the MP9. Take a close look. An Inferno clone should definitely be good for some serious bashing.

SH PT28 XM1-P8 Buggy / Truggy Engine
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Here's SH Engine Company's top-level offering for .28 class Nitro racers. "SH" are initials for the Taiwan Company's name in Chinese, "Sheng Hong". The company is also known as Golden Lion Enterprise Co Ltd.
This is an 8-port racing engine with a 3-screw carburetor assembly- namely for High Speed Needle (HSN), Low Speed Needle (LSN) and Idle Screw. Unlike other SH engines in the lineup, this one does not have a Mid-range Needle adjustment.
The pilot shaft is of a standard length and compatible with most flywheels and clutch bells. However, for this engine size, a 3-shoe clutch and flywheel system is recommended. Rather than using E-clips which are common on lower capacity engines, this uses a 3-mm cap screw. Shim accordingly to remove excess play between your clutch, flywheel and the cap screw.
Due to the 8-ports, the SH PT28 XM1-P8 has a rather large cylinder head. Here are the power statistics- Cublic cpapcity 4.57 cc Bore 18.50 mm Stroke 17.00 mm R.P.M 36000 rpm Power 4.0 hp Weight 422 g
Bad Taiwanese English
I thought this typo by Taiwan's biggest RC engine manufacturer was rather funny. "Power by SH".

Selling Off My Thunder Tiger Pro21-R W/O Pullstart
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. This was the engine on my Kyosho Inferno DX which I have decided to retire due to parts shortage. Before any further wreckage, I'll be cleaning it up and putting it up for display.
The .21 3.5 cc buggy engine still works great. 2.1HP and has a top rev band at 28,000rpm. Letting go for $70. Great for entry-level buggy or truggy. However, those who're currently racing a .15 or .18 engine, i.e. Traxxas Revo or Jato 3.3, or even the HPI RS4s will find this to be a big power boost.
Here's another picture of the engine, in a clean condition. I'm selling mine without pullstart, with the original Thunder Tiger engine backplate, as I'm using the pullstart for a different car.

GE 2011 Marine Parade GRC Results
Where's Nicole Seah?
Cowards voted a bad Hello Kitty imitation into Marine Parade GRC. I'm referring to Tin Pei Ling (TPL).
And of course, they still wanted PAP's tallest Minister, SM Goh Chok Tong.
Nonetheless I hope the minute 57% PAP win will show the politically wary that many others finally dared to vote other than the ruling PAP.
Hopefully, the several whisker victories, I.e. Potong Pasir, and Joo Chiat, plus other closely-fought wards this 2011 Singapore General Elections will empower Singaporeans - especially the older generation, to vote truer to their hearts.
As Nicole Seah said, we now just have to put out hands in those who have been elected into parliament, and hope that they will make the best decisions for our estates and the country.
I also share her thoughts in wanting George Yeo to run for presidency. I'm sure the astute thinker will do more for Singapore than presidents past, and the present SR Nathan whom i remember as expression-less, when about his morning walks in East Coast Park.

Rallying Polls on Voting Day?
What the fuck are these white-clad people doing, handing out flyers to passerbys on voting day? Is that even allowed? It seems they are supporting PAP's cause against the contesting Reform Party. This was just within meters of the closed Clementi West St 2 Neighborhood Police Post. They were handing out flyers printed on white photocopy paper.
The Difference Between Stock and After-Market Servos
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. I decided to do a comparo between standard stock servos and after-market servos as it was fairly convenient - given that two of my 1/8 buggies are both binded to the same transmitter.
Car #1 is a BSD BS809T Land Ripper, Running 4S Lipo 5000mah 40C by Gens Ace. Power system is a HobbyWing 80A ESC and 2230KV Brushless Motor. Stock Steering servo is good for 9kg torque at 6v, and a speed of 0.14s.
Car #2 is a Kyosho Inferno MP9 TKI WC. Powered by SH PT 28 XM1-P8, Jammin JP-4 EFRA 2062 Exhaust, Sanwa Steering Servo (hi-speed, hi-torque) with 15.6kg torque at 6V and speed of 0.06s.
Both are using a FlySky FS-GR3C receiver, binded to a FS-GT3B Transmitter.
Check out the difference in response time and just imagine how after market servos can benefit your track times and more wins at your local races.

Inferno MP9 Powered by SH .28
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Here's my 2nd hand Kyosho Inferno MP9 TKI WC. I bought it as a race-roller. It had lots of expensive mods already on it- all it requires for operation was a receiver, a new powerplant and exhaust muffler. As a big supporter of China-designed and manufactured products, I went for a Flysky GR3C receiver, the Taiwanese SH Engine PT28 XM-P8, and Jammin JP-4 exhaust kit by Hong Nor. Check out the video for features and list of mods. This setup should be strong enough to repeat XxxMain's record house-jumping. What sets this apart from Redcats is how well this well holds up on nosedive crashes from hardcore bashing as well as very precise wheel camber adjustments for sharp responsive turning.

How to Replace / Install New Clutch Shoes For Nitro Engines
http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. As hardy as they are, sometimes nylon clutch shoes melt, or their springs bend or warp. Help is here! In this video I show you how to replace and install clutch shoes on your nitro engine with a clutch tool. I use the SH .28 P8 engine, and HPI aluminium clutch shoes- but it's the same no matter what engine you've got.

The PAP's Workfare Bonus and income supplement scheme is stupid. It is not fair to issue higher payouts to those living in HDBs, while those in private property get mere token sums. In the last 3 years, many HDB flats in prime out-price small 1-2 room apartments and old condos. Neither is it fair to assume that children of those in private property are well to do or receive much financial help from their parents. Fresh grads these days are largely kept to a middle income bracket at best.

This coming Singapore General Elections 2011, vote for the opposition because the PAP will win anyway. If the opposition fares well in votes but loses in the end, they'll be motivated to spend more time, effort and money for a better campaign next time round. The ruling party must always be kept on their toes and must do more to earn our votes. This is the only part all of us can do to ensure Singapore keeps moving forward.
Lol! "Pointless" RC Blog Breaks 20,000 Views!
Http://hpisavagex46.wordpress.com. Half a year in the making, this "pointless" blog just broke 20,000 - no, in fact 21,000 views. This RC interest blog came from the humble beginnings of 13 views in the month of inception, to a steady 300+ views per day right now. Back then, even acquaintances turned a blind eye to the posts here. Then again, I don't expect many people to care. After all, most people would rather read or ogle stories, pics and videos pertaining to celebrity gossip, trivia and the super trivial stuff on what they ate or did yesterday. This blog now gets over 80% of its views via search engines, a good 12% of views via re-blogged posts and shares. 300+ daily views in the Radio Control Cars niche is worth 3-4 times as much traffic in a popular niche. Best part? I love writing about this stuff so much I don't find it a matter of commitment or a chore.
